The Government announced a legally-binding treaty with Rwanda which it said would address the reasons that led the Supreme Court to deem the flagship asylum policy unlawful.<\/p>\n<p>It includes: \u201cThe Parties shall make arrangements for the United Kingdom to resettle a portion of Rwanda\u2019s most vulnerable refugees in the United Kingdom, recognising both Parties\u2019 commitment towards providing better international protection for refugees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Home Secretary James Cleverly travelled to Rwanda\u2019s capital of Kigali yesterday to sign the treaty.<\/p>\n<p>It also states that \u201call transfer requests by the United Kingdom shall require approval by Rwanda prior to any relocation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This means that Rwandan officials will get to decide which asylum seekers it wants to take.<\/p>\n<p>ERG chairman Mark Francois said the group&#8217;s \u201cstar chamber\u201d of lawyers will examine the new Rwanda legislation to ensure it contains &#8216;\u201dunambiguous wording\u201d that will ensure deportation flights.<\/p>\n<p>He warned against any attempt to \u201cbounce\u201d MPs into approving it beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Cleverly said the promised \u201cemergency\u201d legislation will come before Parliament \u201csoon\u201d to determine that Rwanda is a safe destination, as another aspect of the plan.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign Secretary David Cameron stressed the need to tackle small boat crossings as he gave his full backing to the Government\u2019s Rwanda asylum plan.<\/p>\n<p>The Cabinet minister said there was \u201cnothing more destructive\u201d to a country\u2019s border system than such \u201cvisible\u201d illegal migration. I fully support what the Government is doing because we have to stop these illegal boat crossings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is nothing more destructive to a country\u2019s immigration system than to have a continued and very visible amount of illegal migration.
