Pest controllers say business is “manic” in the UK’s biggest bedbug hot-spot.
Exterminators in Hertfordshire claim their county is the most besieged in the country by the blood-suckers. James Garland, from Watford Pest Control, said calls from those returning from France indicate an outbreak in the UK is “coming”.
He added: “We’ve seen a massive uptick in bedbug activity. It’s been manic and we have been pulled from pillar to post. We’ve had a lot more come through.”

Adam Warren, a director of Hertfordshire-based Summit Pest Control, added that his firm has been hit by a huge rise in calls about bedbugs across the South East – from one or two per week to a recent 15 to 25. Research by OnePoll has found a third of folk are cleaning more in a bid to keep the bugs out of their homes.
Paranoia in the UK has been ramping up in recent weeks , with fears that the pesky critters from Paris will be eating up the length and breadth of Britain next. According to The Sun, dozens of southwestern flats have already been hit, claiming that they are coming back after being treated by pest control specialists. Sightings of the little scumbags have also already been made on the Tube in London and in Manchester.
One Wiltshire family, from Swindon, claimed last week to have had an outbreak, with the son of 28-year-old Antonia Selby being overcome by red spots. An inspection of the house led them to turn the sofa over where they were disgusted to find critters running amok.
Speaking to the outlet, she said: “The council sent a pest control company who sprayed the room and we had to stay out for five hours. It’s been done twice now but they come back after a couple of days. Some neighbours have had worse infestations and even thrown their mattress out with a sign warning people not to take it.”
