Reports of a terror attack threat on a plane have left a major European airport at a standstill.

Hamburg Airport has ground to a halt after threats of an attack on an Iranian plane, with no jets now taking off or landing. No take-off or landings have taken place since 12:40pm, the German Press Agency heard on Monday.

A spokesperson for the airport told the agency that Federal Police received a call threatening them with an attack on a plane between Tehran-Hamburg. No background is understood to have been given initially, but the threat is understood to have been taken very seriously.

The jet in question is understood to have landed in the city from Tehran at around 12:20pm and has since been moved to a special bay. Some 198 passengers and 16 crew members are understood to have been on board the plane but are reported by newspaper Haltern to now be clear.

Efforts have since been underway to search both plane and luggage, the outlet reports.
